Outstanding Faculty Academic Advisor Award

Award: A $2,000 award will be given in recognition of an undergraduate faculty academic advisor who exemplifies outstanding service in the following areas:

  1. caring attitude
  2. strong knowledge of UND policies and procedures
  3. ability to integrate a student’s social, educational, career, and life goals and objectives.

Funding for this award is made possible this year by the UND Foundation.

Eligibility: All undergraduate faculty academic advisors are eligible for nomination. UND faculty, staff, students, or alumni may submit nominations. To be eligible, nominees cannot have won any other Founders Day award in the past five years.

Instructions: In order to be considered, nominations are to be made on an individual basis and must be signed (electronically). Self-nominations will not be accepted. Please complete this form as carefully and completely as possible. Please restrict your comments to the allotted space. Attachments will not be considered.

Deadline: Nominations must be returned no later than Friday, January 11, 2013. Please submit completed nomination form to the Student Success Center, 2901 University Ave., Stop 7143, Memorial Union, Grand Forks, ND 58202-7143.

Selection: A subcommittee of the UND Academic Advising Committee will review the nominations and select a recipient. The Award will be presented annually at the UND Founders Day celebration that takes place in February.

1. Give specific examples of how this person has demonstrated a caring attitude. (e.g. good communication skills, trusting relationship, enthusiastic and motivational, goes above and beyond in advising, etc.)
 
2. Give specific examples of how this person has demonstrated a strong knowledge of the University of North Dakota’s policies and procedures. (e.g. knows the difference between the last day to drop a course and the last day to receive a refund, knows how the petition process works, understands the Essential Studies Requirements, is flexible and creative, etc.)
 
3. Give specific examples of how this person is able to help integrate a student’s social, educational, career/life goals, and objectives. (e.g. serves as a mentor to students, considers a student’s individual needs in the educational process, etc.)
